june rubies

This was the Ruby wedding we did in June. Not Ruby the color but Ruby the family. Fabulous people who I honestly cannot say enough nice things about. They were trusting, caring, thankful and so appreciative of all the work we did for them. Actually...the gardenia bouquet previous post was the sample arrangement I did for Debbie. Though I am still waiting to see the professional images from Amy& Stuart...who no doubt got some unforgettable shots. Hope to share those soon! Plus, Curtis of Living Cinema captured this wedding on film. His work is so touching. Wish I had known him when Ken I tied the knot!

Coral peonies, pitcher plant, queen anne's lace!!!! I felt like these arrangements were so alive.

Summer blues

It's kind of what you think..but not really. I do feel the stress of a long season with a far away end in sight (which also gives me the blues a little), but the summer blues that I have right now are flower blues and purples. Working on a crazy beautiful wedding for this Saturday at Vibiana (a converted Cathedral from the 1800"s that is hard to describe with plain old words.) I'm up late thinking about it, pondering what I have left to do over the next three days, how to accomplish it, how it will look. Funny thing actually...I have an idea about what it will look like, but I don't KNOW completely. Sometimes I feel as if the flower thing is like being part of a renegade installation art crew that shows up with a van full of flowers and has 2-4 hours to literally transform a space. Did I mention there is a lot of purple involved? I guess I really like purple as it turns out.
I write this as Alice is kicking me, scrambling and stretching in her sleep. Growing like a weed this one. Big brain too! Right now she is probably dreaming about being Spiderman. She is enamored and in awe of him of late. Webbing and whatnot. To bed, to dreams....

a little sample bouquet of gardenias I did for a June bride. Something heavenly and timeless about gardenias, no?

Eeny Meeny Miny moe

This actually isn't as random as the title denotes. It's kind of chronological. Images from the studio - our first wedding of 2010 way back in FEBRUARY if you can believe that. What this means is I actually have a backlog of images that is about 7 months long (minus the few weddings were things were just too insane to even pick up the camera. We will have to rely on the professionals for those.)

Sonya and Douglas wed in their historic home in the Hollywood Hills..I have the image by Isabel Lawrence Photography somewhere, but we'll start with these.

Isn't my little shop girl the cutest?!!! We have a good time.

The most amazing thing I did for this wedding is unfortunately not documented here. Sonya wanted a vintage style cascading bouquet - I used cattleya orchids, carmel antique roses and looped in strands of tuberose/freesia/jasmine to form the cascading part. A very nerve wracking experience. Completely improvised and it actually looked good. Amazing actually! Have to defer to Isabel's images for those. Coming soon. x

summer squeeze

Well... a lot of things have been happening here, which you will all be privy to shortly. Mostly, there has been an abundance of flowers. ferns, vines, underwatery-looking things, tree of heaven, coral peonies, dahias, knock-your-socks-off clematis, and a new world of imagination and playing. Not just with flowers mind you. I do have a nearly 3 year old gal who is constantly keeping me on my toes with her boldness, creativity, tenderness, spiderman/wonderwoman/cowboy/superhero role playing (I get to be Mary Jane!) and man can she make me laugh. It has been our busiest season ever and it has been good. Still a few months to go - but feeling pretty lovely about what we've done so far. Wanting to share more than I can right now since I am so far behind. But I reckon we will have a little time to catch up sooner or later. Thanks for hanging in there!

Lots of real weddings on their way... here and on GLOSSY PAGES. (yippee!!!!!!)

In the meantime....
we were featured on Snippet and Ink's NEW site which is so gorgeous and I am very jealous

This is little bit of something we did kind of a la carte with some great women...
I'm digging color lately. monochromatic shhhhmomo-chromatic. It has it's time and place but color is so much fun and so JUICY. Be bold I say...don't be afraid. Color is hip.
You can see the full post featured on the lovely, restyled and revamped Snippet and Ink (thanks Kathryn!)
Photographed by Bonnie Tsang - love her evolved and subtle vision. Great, timeless photography.

The Workshop!

Oh dear, I've been a bad girl! But I have a good excuse for my absentee posts - things have been straight out nutty here. Lots of weddings, beautiful brides, fun locations, and LOTS of flowers which I will get to eventually. So many studio shots to share and I'm not sure I will ever be as awesome at blogging them as I would like to be.

On another note...we did our little workshop in Santa Barbara this spring and it was soooo FUN. It turned out to be a relaxed, one-on-one intensive with my gal Grace from Vale of Enna in Chicago. All I can say is...she makes me smile! A talented designer and a wonderful person. I felt so lucky to have 2 days designing with her and making a new flower friend.

We had secured this fantastic little Hobbit House in the sand, picked some amazing flowers, played and designed and chatted for hours just inches from the water's edge. Enjoyed good food, good company, great wine etc.
On day two a few people arrived who I am lucky to call my friends....

Joel Serrato of Joel Serrato Films, and Jose Villa came to capture our little elopement creations. Rebecca Stone of Duet-Weddings was there too to add all her infinite design wisdom and help me keep my sanity. Gorgeous Melanie and her beau Chris came to model.
My husband and our little Alice rounded out the group for a very fun and magical time.

See more of this little elopement session, including Joels sweet film, on Style Me Pretty and Once Wed.

New Workshop Dates for September coming soon!
Hope to see some of you there.
